Articles for Friday's Class

Hey guys,

Sorry that I'm not there today and it's the first week. You are all perfectly capable of doing this without me there. You've just got to buckle down, focus, and work hard during class time.

Most importantly--Be GOOD for Mrs. George. If I get a report back from her that isn't full of glowing praise and how behaved and respectful you all were, prepare to have some consequences handed out to you in the form of points being deducted from your daily grade.

You are going to read the 5 articles linked below. In a GoogleDoc, takes notes of particular passages and insights that you like. You'll need these notes to help craft the reflection essay we'll be working on on the Monday we're back from break. Be thorough with your note taking. The more notes you have, the more evidence you'll have at your disposal for the essay.

Week 7, September 25-29

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Rosh Hashanah. Now that we've ushered in a new year, it's time to usher in our proper marketing!

That means COMMERCIALS!!

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we will be filming our commercials.

When one group is filming, you may read over your scripts and practice, make last minute adjustments to your scripts,  or if you need to do last minute adjustments on your prototype, that is what you will be doing.

Just because you are not filming does not mean it is free time to goof off.

On Friday, we will be witnessing the Second Continental Congress!

Commercials

So you've begun writing (or have already finished) your scripts for your commercials. Fantastic! But I want you to watch a few examples of commercials for popular products and think about the following statement:

"How does my commercial compare to these?"

Of course, these were written and produce by professionals. But that doesn't mean that your commercials have to be any less awesome than these are.

Once you've compared your script to the commercials, you are to go back and write a 2nd draft of your script.

To write the second draft of your script, use the Script Template linked on the right. There is also a link to a Script Example that uses this same template.

NOTE: You will need to MAKE A COPY of the Script Template. To do this, go to FILE then click MAKE A COPY. It will save it to your Google Drive and you'll be able to edit it.

Your script needs to be 1 page long (in screenwriting 1 page = 1 minute of film) and needs to look like the Script Example in how it is written.

You will turn in BOTH the 1st and 2nd draft to me by the end of class today, September 15th, on our GoogleClassroom.

Scripts turned into me after class is over (so after 9:40 a.m.) will be considered late and 5 points will be deducted from your grade automatically. I will deduct 5 more points for each day afterwards that it is late.

Work hard and thoughtfully on this. Do not turn in a meh project.

You will need headphones for this. You will be listening to them on your own. There should be no talking during class today. We will cast our commercials later, do not talk to your classmates further about being in yours and/or their commercial.

Coca Cola

Mentos

Mazda

Lego

Snickers

Oreos

Week 6, September 18-22

We've begun writing scripts for our product commercials, but due to a Tech hiccup, we're taking a brief step back this week. The good news is that it's a brief week due to Rosh Hashanah.

Monday, September 18th--- Cardboard prototypes (our 3D printer is on the fritz, so lets travel back to the Original 3D printer--a handmade model!)

Tuesday, September 19th---Begin filming commericals

Wednesday, September 20th---No class, Jewish Film Festival

Thursday, September 21st---No class
Friday, September 22nd---No class

Friday, September 8, 2017

Week 5, September 11-15

Sadly, Charleston has been postponed, but we're still going to have fun! You've built prototypes in Tinkercad, but due to certain limitations, not every project will be 3D printed. But you can't market your product without your product! So, we're going to do a second round of prototyping before Marketing!

Monday, September 11th--Prototypes from Cardboard.

Tuesday--Finish up Cardboard prototypes if necessary, begin Marketing flier

Wednesday--Finish Marketing flier, begin writing script for commercial.
